Do Gadsden Snakes Dig Holes?
Different Alabama snake species can have a variety of habitats throughout the world except in Antarctica. They are commonly spotted in Australia, America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Note that Australia is the only continent where you will find more numbers of venomous snakes as compared to non-venomous snakes.
Snakes prefer to live in mountains, marshes, lakes, forests, deserts and sometimes also in crowded cities. They always try to search for the most suitable habitat for themselves where they can stay safe and enjoy plenty of food, but one fact is well proven that they don’t like to be close to humans. In most cases, they simply try to run away from areas where they find a more human crowd.
These cold-blooded Gadsden reptiles prefer to visit outdoors during the summer season and sunny days, but in the winter season, they prefer to hide in their dens and hibernate. As soon as the temperature of the environment rises, they will again come out. However, reports say that there are many species of snakes that prefer to live underground most of the time. They come out only when they need to catch prey for food and to get some sunbath on a sunny day. Few other snake species are always curious to wander outside, and they look for homes only during cold months and night hours.
Snakes are not bound to live in holes only even they can take other types of shelters as well. They usually look for under leaf litter, under rocks, hollow tree hunks, and other holes to stay safe inside. Although they can also live in underground holes but as they are not a decent digger, so it is generally not preferred by them. They will try to create a tunnel below ground only if the soil is loose enough and it can be easily taken out. However, we cannot say that they dig holes because in this process as well they just try to bury their body in the loose soil.
Those who want to know whether Alabama snakes live in holes or not can have a clear answer that yes, they can live inside holes but these holes are not actually created by them. They simply take up holes created by other rodents such as rats and mice etc. They often search for a rodent hole, get inside and attack the creature living inside. Once they end up their food, they will consider this hole as their sweet home and can live there for a long time.
Many people believe that holes are created by a Gadsden snake because they do not find other animals or rodents around. However, if you find a hole without any debris or webs of spider around, it is good to call snake exterminators as soon as possible to get rid of a snake that is hidden inside the hole. Prefer to maintain proper cleanliness in your garden and yard area so that snakes do not find a space to live inside.
